Frequently Asked Questions

We understand that legal documents can be overwhelming — here are quick answers to common questions before you book.

What do I need to bring to my notary appointment?

Please have a valid government-issued ID (such as a driver’s license or passport) for every signer. For estate plan or trust signings, make sure all documents are printed and ready — and any witnesses required are present.

What IDs are accepted for notarization in California?

California law requires signers to present a valid, government-issued photo ID that is current or issued within the last five years. The ID must include the signer’s photograph, physical description, signature, and a serial or identification number.

Accepted IDs include:

- California driver’s license or state ID card

- U.S. passport or passport card

- U.S. military ID (must contain signature, photo, and serial number)

- Driver’s license or ID card issued by another U.S. state

- Permanent Resident (Green) Card issued by U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services

Do you travel to homes, offices, or hospitals?

Yes! We’re a fully mobile notary service. We meet clients at homes, offices, senior living facilities, and hospitals across the San Francisco Bay Area. Travel is included within our core service area.

What if my ID is expired?

An ID that expired within the last five years may still be accepted if it was issued by a U.S. or California government agency and contains all required elements (photo, signature, etc.).

If it’s been expired longer than one year, you’ll need to provide one of the accepted alternatives below.

I don’t have a valid ID — what can I do?

If you don’t have an acceptable ID, California allows you to use two credible witnesses who personally know you.

Both witnesses must:

- Present their own valid government-issued IDs

- Swear under oath that they personally know you

- Sign the notary’s journal

- This is commonly used for elderly clients or hospital signings.

Are foreign passports accepted?

Yes — foreign passports issued by your home country are accepted, provided they contain a valid U.S. visa or entry stamp and are current (not expired).

A foreign passport is acceptable identification if:

- It is current (not expired), and

- It was issued by a foreign government, and

- It has been stamped by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) or contains a U.S. visa or entry stamp showing lawful entry into the United States.

⚠️ However, if the notarization involves a document being filed with a California state agency, the ID must instead be a U.S. passport, U.S. driver’s license, or California ID card — a foreign passport wouldn’t qualify for that specific purpose.

What IDs are not accepted?

Notaries in California cannot accept:

- Work badges or employer IDs

- School or student IDs

- Temporary paper licenses

- Social Security cards

- Birth certificates

- Credit cards or membership cards

How much notice do I need to schedule an appointment?

We recommend scheduling at least 24 hours in advance. However, we do offer same-day and emergency appointments (additional fee may apply).

What if I’m not sure which service to select?

No problem! You can text or call us at (510) 497-4509, and we’ll help you choose the right service before booking.

Do you provide witnesses if I don’t have any?

Yes, witnesses can be provided when available for an additional $50 fee per witness. Please request this in the notes when booking.

What payment methods do you accept?

We securely accept credit/debit cards through Square. Payment is required at the time of service.
